Eight will vie for 2012 Distingu!shed Young Women title

deen High School junior
girls' will be competing for Aberdeen's
Distinguished Young Women title for
2012. The girls are Stephani Pratt, Cassie
Escujuri, Kayla Kisner, Tiemey Warren,
Kaitlin Wynn, Kaia Park, Kaelee Palmer
and Stacy Roberts. All eight girls are fea-
tured in this week's edition of The Aber-
deen Times.
The program, fomlerly known as Ju-
nior Miss, will be held Saturday, April 16,
at 7 p.m. in the Aberdeen Middle School
gymnasium. Tickets are available in ad-
vance from any of the contestants or they
can be purchased at the door. Tickets are
$8 per person.
Tierney Warren
i i Tierney Lynn Warren, daughter of Kev-
in and Tamara Warren, is the fourth child
of five, having two older brothers, Justin,
23, and Shawn, 20, one older sister, Brit-
tany, 25, and one younger sister, Shelbey,
15. She wants to attend Brigham Young
University - Idaho or Utah State Univer-
sity and major in psychology and minor
in music after she graduates high school.
She has taken piano lessons for 11 1/2
years, dance lessons for 12 years, vocal
lessons for seven years, been in the high
school musicals, National Honor Soci-
ety, choir, cheerleading, Business Profes-
L sionals of America, and her church youth
group. She has received a $150 scholar-
ship at Idaho State University piano camp,
her ten year award in piano, her ten year
award in dance, was a member of the state
cheerleading champions in 2009, 2010
and 2011, a superior for a vocal solo at
festival, All American cheerleading, Tip
Toe Walker Award, and the District Cheer
Academic Award. Her other interests in-
clude reading, skiing, gymnastics, scrap-
booking, photography and working with
computer programs.
Tiemey said she is most proud of her
generation for their desire to be educated.
She feels her generation judges others too
easily and that makes her the least proud.
She feels the most pressing problem
facing young people today is their lack of
motivation. If she could do one thing to
improve the school system she would like
to have a stronger connection between
students and teachers.
She is going to perform a piano solo in
the talent portion of the program.
Stephani Pratt
Stephanie May Pratt, daughter of Bryce
and Teri Pratt, is the second child of four,
having an older sister Jaclin, 23, one
younger sister, Haily, 14, and one younger
brother, Bryce Jr. (B.J.), 11. She wants to
attend beauty school and become a hair
stylist/nail technician after she graduates
high school. She has been involved in
playing volleyball in high school, the high
school musical productions, her church
youth group, club volleyball, choir, and
she was the high school basketball man-
ager for one year and played basketball for
one year. She likes to read along with au-
dio books. She has been on the high honor
list, earned the volleyball "Most Improved
Player" award and the volleyball "Most
Serving Aces" award. Her other interests
include fashion and hair style.
Stephanie said she is most proud of her
generation and the way they use technol-
ogy to do many good things. Sometimes
her generation has too much drama and
not enough real communication and that
makes her the least proud.
She feels the most pressing problem
facing young people today is young peo-
ple are too busy. They are missing time
with their family and friends. If she could
do one thing to improve the school system
she would like more vocational classes in
high school.
She is going to perform a vocal solo in
the talent portion of the program.
Stacy Roberts
Stacy Lyn Roberts, daughter of David
and Cherielyn Roberts, is the youngest
child of three, having an older sister Sara,
24, and an older brother, Stewart, 21. She
wants to attend Brigham Young University
- Idaho, Idaho State University, Brigham
Young University or Utah State Universi-
ty and study neuroscience or psychology
after she graduates high school. She has
been involved in her church youth group,
cheerleading, high school musicals, gym-

The Aberdeen PTSA general meeting
will be held Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m.
in the middle school library. All interested
persons are invited to attend.

There are still a few unclaimed props
from the musical, Oliver! - mainly some
wooden bowls and a black blanket with
Tiger Power embroidery. Call Monaquita

Community
garden now
offering plots
Aberdeen Community Garden is now
offering plots for the 2011 growing sea-
son. Large plots are $35 and small plots
are $25. The garden will be located at 668
South 4th West, across from the Catholic
Church.
There will be water and fertilizer avail-
able, but everyone having a plot will be
responsible for their own plantings, seeds
and gardening tools.

ence the media has on them. If she could
do one thing to improve the school system
she would like to see a broader variety of
classes to choose from.
She is going to perform a cheer routine
in the talent portion of the program.
Amy, 19. She wants to attend Brigham
Young University - Idaho and study in
the medical field. She has been involved
in concert band, playing alto saxophone,
the Aberdeen High School musical, her
church youth group, jazz band, Aber-
deen Pep Band, played on the C team
and junior varsity volleyball teams, the
National Honor Society, Blackfoot/Bing-
ham County Youth Coalition, and played
on the C team basketball. She has earned
her church Young Womanhood Recogni-
tion, her varsity letter in music, scholastic
awards in algebra I and II, biology, natu-
ral sciences, computer applications I, and
English 9. She has received an excellent
rating for a saxophone solo in both 2010
and 2011, was named the "Best C-Team
Server" in volleyball and "Best "Box-
Out" team member" in basketball. She
likes to be with her family, cook and bake,
play the piano, collect red foxes, reading
and journal writing.
Cassie said she is most proud of her
generation in the way they are not afraid
of understanding and using technology.
Her generation has grown accustomed
to having things given to them and that
makes her the least proud.
She feels the most pressing problem
facing young people today is the world's
condition due to political unrest and the
national debt. If she could do one thing
to improve the school system she would
want to once again empower teachers in
the classroom.
She is going to play a piano solo in the
talent portion of the program.
Kayla Marie Kisner, daughter of Trina
Helmick and Alvin Kisner, has one broth-
er, Zachary Kisner. She is not sure what
she wants to do after she graduates high
school. She has been involved in volley-
ball, basketball, choir, club volleyball,
and the Blackfoot Bingham County Youth
Coalition. She has received a sports letter
for playing on the varsity team. Her oth-
er interests include camping, hiking and
hanging out with friends.
Kayla will perform a vocal solo in the
talent portion of the program.
Cassie Escujuri
Cassie Marie Escujuri, daughter of Ar-
thur and Carolyn Escujuri, is the young-
est of three children. She has one older
brother, Jared, 20, and one older sister,
Kaelee Palmer
Kaelee Alair Palmer, daughter of Rus-
sell and Lora Palmer, is the oldest child
of four, having a younger sister Kimber-
lee, 11, and two younger brothers, Ca-
den, 14 and Logan, 7. She wants to attend
Brigham Young University and study
exercise science/physician's assistant af-
ter she graduates high school. She has
been involved in National Honor Society,
dance for 12 years, piano for six years,
her church youth group, Business Profes-
sionals of American, cheerleading, choir,
musical, gymnastics for five years, Tiger
Club, softball and as Homecoming Roy-
alty. She has been on the high honor roll,
a perfect score on the state essay, student
government offÉcers, received her Young
Woman Recognition Award, her ten year
dance award, was junior intern at Idaho
State University, and qualified for state
BPA. Her other interests include reading
classic novels, hiking, cake decorating,
writing essays, exercising, and running
Testing started this week
at elementary school
The Aberdeen Elementary School has
announced its testing dates for the Idaho
Standards Achievement Tests (ISATs) this
spring. They ask parents to mark their
home/personal calendars for the follow-
ing weeks:
• The week of April 11 - Currently un-
derway, all third, fourth and fifth grade
students are taking the language portion
of the ISAT.
• The week of April 18 - All third, fourth
and fifth grade students will take the read-
ing portion of the ISAT.
• The week of April 25 - All third, fourth
and fifth grade students will take the math
portion of the ISAT.
In addition to the tests scheduled, all
fifth grade students will be taking the sci-
ence portion of the ISAT on Friday of the
weeks identified.
These tests will be given during the
morning and early afternoon, so it is very
important that each child be well rested,
eat a nutritious breakfast at home or at
school, and are at school on time each
day.
The Aberdeen School District asks par-
ents not to schedule appointments or fam-
ily vacations during these weeks of test-
ing. They also ask that parents limit their
child's access to video games during this
testing period.

Kaelee said she is most proud of her
generation and their drive to achieve and
accept change. Her generation's inability
to comprehend and their choice and ac-
countability makes her the least proud.
She feels the most pressing problem
facing young people today is their lack of
respect. If she could do one thing to im-
prove the school system she would like
more advanced placement classes in high
school.
She is going to perform a ballet en pointe
in the talent portion of the program.
Kaia Park
Kaia Lilya Park, daughter of Kevin
and Sheila Park, is the seventh child of
12, having four sisters Mandy, 27, Laura,
21, Amber, 19, and Whitney, 6, and seven
brothers, David, 28, Brian, 25, Nathan,
23, Cade, 15, Tyson, 13, Jonathan, 11, and
Zach, 10. She wants to attend Brigham
Young University -Idaho and become a
teacher after she graduates high school.
She has been involved in National Honor
Society, musicals, her church youth group,
and cross country. She took third place in
a junior varsity cross country, meet, re-
ceived the algebra I award, and lettered
in cross country. Her other interests in-
clude playing the piano, cooking, reading,
camping, and playing with her family..
Kaia said she is most proud of her gen-
eration because she thinks they have the
most potential for good. Their lack of de-
termination makes her the least proud.
She feels the most pressing problem
facing young people today is the tempta-
tion of drugs, alcohol and sex. If she could
do one thing to improve the school system
she would make sure each student had the
help they needed to succeed in school.
She is going to perform a vocal solo in
the talent portion of the program.
Kaitlin Wynn
Kaitlin Mikel Wynn, daughter of David
and Kimberly Wynn, has three brothers,
Nickolas, 20, Michael, 16, and Carson, 9,
and one sister, Cassidy, 20. She wants to
attend Idaho State University or Brigham
Young University - Idaho after she gradu-
ates high school. She has been involved
in volleyball, basketball, track, softball,
National Honor Society and her church
youth group. She has been a class officer,
and received the advanced math, biology,
literature, history, algebra II, Spanish I,
and computer apps awards. Her other in-
terests include playing the piano, sewing
and bicycling.
Kaitlin is going to perform a piano solo
in the talent portion of the program.
